Resonanz-Variances
A double composer portrait: Thierry Pécou and Moritz Eggert
With composers Thierry Pécou, France, and Moritz Eggert, Germany
And the Ensembles Resonanz (Hamburg) and Variances (Rouen)
Presentation
The two ensembles Variances (in residence at the Arsenal in Metz) and Resonanz (Hamburg) are two ensembles presenting contemporary music on an exceptional level, one from Germany, one from France. In this project, both ensembles come together to create a double composer portrait. Each of the participating composers, Thierry Pécou representing the French side and Moritz Eggert as his counterpart on the German side, will write a new piece that involves both ensembles in its performance. The program will feature two composers of unique character as well as two ensembles each representing its individual world of sound. Each of the two ensembles will contribute to the program with its very own sound identity: Ensemble Variances will be made up of six winds; Ensemble Resonanz will comprise nine string players and one percussion. Their common project will offer the opportunity to change perspectives on contemporary music.
In between the performances of the two ensembles, both composers will play the four-hand piano to create transitions between the works and add a common thread to the program.
The project will be presented at NDR’s Rolf Liebermann Studio in Hamburg, the concert hall of ‘Arsenal de Metz’ and the Festival Présences of Radio France Paris.
